Stephan Mathieu has been leaving quite an impact on me this past year, and this live collaboration with Argentina’s Caro Mikalef continues that streak of genius.

Caro Mikalef runs Cabina, a design studio co-founded with Coni Luna in Buenos Aires in 2001. Cabina’s work is featured in numerous international publications, their audiovisual pieces Buenos Aires Rorschach and Design Detox have been presented at DMY International Design Festival Berlin in 2011 and 2012. Mikalef’s love for a mix of poetry, literature and design is expressed in her weblog. As a performer of music she is specialized in playing the octave virginals and ebowed Phonoharp zither.

Stephan Mathieu is a self taught composer and performer of his own music, working in the fields of electroacoustics and abstract digitala. His sound is largely based on early instruments, environmental sound and obsolete media, which are recorded and transformed by means of experimental microphony and re-editing techniques; it has been compared to the landscape paintings of Caspar David Friedrich. Apart from refining his solo work he currently collaborates with Tashi Wada, Akira Rabelais and Kassel Jaeger, Robert Hampson/MAIN and Hans-Joachim Roedelius in live and studio projects.

Collaborating since 2009, Mikalef and Mathieu had premiered their first mutual work Constellations a mechanical-acoustic piece for renaissance claviers and spectral light at Sonar2010 in Barcelona. They are currently working on a new version of Process, initially created for the 25th Zagreb Music Biennale.
In February 2012 Radioland (Panorámica), a live recording of an audiovisual piece was released on Line.
