I was introduced to Zbigniew’s sound in 1994, when he was part of an ensemble led by Blixa Bargeld for a show in Berlin’s Tacheles.

In December 2007 we performed a live score to Wojchieh Has’ movie The Saragossa Manuscript at the BFI London. For each of his cues Zbigniew played a subtle variation of a spooky, thick hyper-synthetic drone, extremely effective, with grandeur of the stroke of a dark angel’s wings. We shared a flat for some days and spent the nights quietly, sitting at a small table with a bottle of Islay quater cask, talking politicts, life.

I met him only once again in Paris, where we both performed sets for the GRM’s Présences Électronique in 2010. After his show, which I missed due having performed in the slot right before him, he stormed backstage furiously, complaining about what a ’pussy soundsystem’ this was.

You will be missed.
